1.a) Draw the basic block diagram of structural units of a processor in
ES and explain the functions of each block.
b) List the possible sources of interrupts. Explain various methods of
interrupt servicing mechanism and their addressing schemes.

2.a) Explain how the data structures stored in memory with suitable
examples.
b) How do separate caches for instruction, data, and branch transfer
help in speed up of a system.

3.a) Give the classification of I/O devices and explain various types of
communication.
b) Mention various ways of synchronization in I/O devices.
c) Describe popular serial bus protocols used in ES

4.a) Explain the process of communication and control of devices using
PCI bus.
b) Describe briefly the TCP/IP suits five most used protocols.

5.a) How do you write device driver(DD)? List the steps involved in
writing a DD for an I/O device.
b) What do you mean by software timer(SWT). How do SWT help in
scheduling multiple real time tasks.

6.a) What is exception and how is an error handling task executed on
throwing the exception?
b) Explain the concepts of process, task and thread and their control
block.

7.a) For each of the following situations, discuss which of the three
shared data protection mechanisms seems most likely to be best
and explain why?
i) Task M and Task N share an int array, and each array often
must update many elements in the array.
ii) Task P shares a single char variable with one of the interrupt
routines.
b) What is meant by Atomic and critical section? Explain with
suitable examples? Mention various alternative solution for these?

8.a) Why is the selection of a right platform is essential in the
development process of Embedded system?
b) What is back support package? What are the various components
of a target emulator and advantages of using ICE.
