3.a) What is meant by ‘flash’ in a forging? Explain with the help of a
sketch.
b) Enumerate the differences between
(i) Open die forging and closed die forging
(ii) drop forging and press forging.

4.a) Draw the cross section of a drawing die labeling various features of
it.
b) What are the various materials used for making wire drawing dies?
Explain their applications.

5.a) Explain with simple sketches, the process of forward and
backward extrusion.
b) Explain how the various variables effect the extrusion pressure.

6.a) Draw a sketch of a punch and a die set used for punching
operation. Indicate its various parts.
b) Explain the following terms:
(i) Coining (ii) Embossing (iii) Trimming

7.a) Explain the advantages and disadvantages of compound dies over
progressive.
b) Explain the basic principles to be followed in the strip development
for shearing dies.

8.a) Describe six point location principle in jig and fixture design.
b) With the help of neat sketch, explain electromagnetic forming
process.
